The Jenny Böken Charity

On 3rd September 2008 during a night voyage, Jenny Böken, a medical cadet officer on the school ship “Gorch Fock”, went overboard from this  prestigious German Navy vessel.  Despite an extensive search conducted by the German Armed Forces, the German Police and by numerous persons and institutions , unfortunately Jenny’s body was found eleven days later in the North Sea.  She has been buried in her home town of Geilenkirchen in Rhineland.

Jenny’s mother, Marlis Böken, has since registered the Jenny Böken Charity with prominent support from the German government,  Schleswig-Holstein’s regional government, the German Army and the German Navy. Mrs Böken is to serve as Chairperson.

The purpose of the charity is to:

-   Help and support the sorrowed families of killed and fallen

servicemen and women.

-   Provide care and assistance for servicemen, women and their families who, during their course of duty, have become invalids and are no longer able to serve or work.

Mr Reinhold Robbe, the Parliamentary Commissioner for the German Armed Forces, has declared himself willing to be the patron for the Jenny Böken Charity.
